Welcome!
Welcome to the web site of Elliott Baker. For the last thirteen years Elliott has endeavored to create pieces of theatre that would lift us from the everyday to the joy filled world of the imagination. From 1992 until the present, Elliott Baker has written words, music and lyrics to a wide range of shows. From the dark "The Cask of Amontillado" to the whimsical "The Tooth Fairy's Daughter." From Dickensonian England in "Young Ebenezer" to the land of Neverwhen in "That's Princess... With a Pea!" And finally to that most magical of men Doctor Dolittle. In his music where melody rules and his characters where dignity doesn't, Elliott has crafted a body of theatre that will entertain young and old and all in between.
"But wait" said the television announcer selling magical chopping and dicing devices. Somewhere in the intervening years, Elliott found a love for the magic of watercolors. Pushing paint around into more pleasing forms is much like pushing notes around. Please forgive and humor the hubris of a mostly songwriter in placing his other artwork here. There are no awards to be listed, and no famous showings to be critiqued. Just a few hopefully pleasing watercolors which you may perhaps enjoy.
Is that all? Almost. Along the way as happens to songwriters, sometimes songs fall out that don't belong to a show. Kind of errant children who are determined to go their own way.
There, that's all. For now. To create is not enough. To share what is created completes the cycle. Recently Elliott got a call from California where "The Adventures of Doctor Dolittle" was being performed by a community theatre group. A woman in the show called to thank him and to allow him the incredible pleasure of hearing her three year old and seven year old sing selections from the show. Do you remember learning selections from a musical you heard around the house? He does.
